Oprah Winfrey flipped the script on Stephen Colbert by taking a seat behind his late-night desk and interviewing him about the end of "The Late Show."
“Bargain bin slop — the ‘chat show’ is a panel of hacky unwatchable comics reciting bits from their material when prompted ‘in conversation’ — all told to avoid topical material so it can be rerun in syndication forever — and it has been,” another viewer argued.
"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" will end May 21. Oprah Winfrey has still got it. The former daytime TV talk show host went on Stephen Colbert 's The Late Show on Tuesday — one of his final guests ever as the cancelled series marches toward its conclusion — but ended up behind the desk interviewing him.
CBS briefly replaced James Corden's "The Late Late Show" with "Comics Unleashed" starting in 2023 after Corden stepped away from late-night. This time slot after "The Late Show" was later occupied by the comedy game show "After Midnight," which was canceled in 2025 and replaced by "Comics Unleashed" again.
